Terms

What you agree to.

These terms cover the Orvedis app and the service behind it. The part that matters most: the assistant explains and diagnoses, it never instructs hazardous work, and every decision on board stays with the master. Last updated 17 September 2026.

Who these terms are between

Orvedis is operated from İstanbul, Türkiye. The legal entity and registered address will be stated here when the company registration is complete. These terms govern the use of the Orvedis mobile app for iOS and Android and the service behind it, together “the Service”.

The Service is supplied to a customer organisation, normally a fleet operator, under a separate written agreement or order form. Individual users, which means crew members, DPAs, technical managers and organisation admins, reach the Service through accounts created for them, and they accept these terms by using it. Where the customer’s written agreement and these terms conflict, the written agreement prevails.

What the Service is

An AI assistant for the electronic navigation and communication equipment on board a vessel. It holds a record of each device, reads the manuals the customer has uploaded for those devices, answers the crew’s questions about a fault in text or in a voice call, and compiles what was observed and tried into a service report the customer can export as a PDF and send to its own service company.

The Service does not cover engine room equipment, deck machinery or any other department unless we state otherwise in writing.

The assistant is an advisor

This is the most important section on this page.

The assistant explains and diagnoses. It tells the crew what a reading, an alarm or a symptom means, what the device’s own manual says about it, and what the likely causes are. It asks the crew to look at the panel and report what they see. It is a source of understanding, and it is not a work instruction.

The assistant does not instruct hazardous work, and it stops when a question crosses into it. That includes, and is not limited to, opening an equipment cover or enclosure, any work on high voltage, antenna alignment or calibration, soldering, replacing a part, and firmware work. When a question reaches that line, the assistant says so and hands the matter to a qualified technician.

The assistant may state a regulatory status or an obligation, for example that an item is subject to a survey or that a carriage requirement exists. It never grants permission. It will not tell you that a vessel may sail, that a defect may be accepted, or that a requirement may be set aside. Those are decisions for the master, the company and the authorities.

Every decision on board stays with the master and the responsible officer. The customer remains responsible for the safe operation of the vessel, for compliance with flag state, class and statutory requirements, and for deciding what is done with anything the assistant says.

Accounts

Accounts are created by Orvedis for the customer. There is no self-service sign-up and no consumer subscription. The customer decides who gets an account and with what role, and tells us when someone should lose access.

Users keep their own credentials confidential and do not share an account. Two-factor authentication is required for admin accounts and available to fleet manager accounts. If an account is compromised, tell us at security@orvedis.com and we will revoke its sessions. The customer is responsible for use of the Service through the accounts it has asked us to create.

Acceptable use

Do not use the Service to:

  • attempt to reach data belonging to another organisation, by any means, including by putting instructions into a message, a manual or a device record in order to steer the assistant;
  • attempt to make the assistant issue a hazardous work instruction, or to present its output as a permission, an approval or a certificate;
  • upload material you have no right to upload, including manuals you are not entitled to use, or content that is unlawful;
  • probe, scan, overload or disrupt the Service, or circumvent rate limits, authentication or any other protection;
  • resell the Service, give access to a third party outside the customer, or use it to build a competing product.

Automated or scripted access outside the app is allowed only with our written agreement. We may suspend an account or an organisation that is breaking this section, for as long as it takes to resolve the matter. Where the risk allows it we tell the customer first.

Manuals and other customer content

Device records, manuals, photos, conversations, tickets and reports stay the customer’s property. The customer grants Orvedis the rights needed to host that content, to index it, to generate embeddings from it, and to send the relevant excerpts to the model providers named in the privacy policy, so the Service can answer with it. That licence exists only to run the Service for the customer, and it ends when the content is deleted.

The customer confirms that it is entitled to upload each manual and to have it used this way, by ownership, by licence from the manufacturer, or because the manual came with the equipment it owns or operates. Orvedis does not supply manuals and does not check the customer’s rights in them. If a rights holder objects to a document, we will tell the customer and may remove it.

Customer content is not used to train any model. The assistant’s inputs and outputs are kept as evaluation logs with personal identifiers removed, so we can measure answer quality and the safety behaviour described above.

No payments in the app

The Service carries no payments. There is no in-app purchase, no subscription sold inside the app and no payment page. A subscription is agreed with the customer and invoiced to the customer outside the app. Orvedis processes no card or bank details anywhere in the product.

Availability

We aim to keep the Service available and to fix faults quickly, and we do not promise a service level. There is no uptime commitment, no response time commitment and no credit regime in these terms. Maintenance, provider failures and network conditions at sea can all interrupt the Service. Where a customer needs a committed service level, it belongs in the written agreement and is agreed separately.

The Service depends on a working internet connection on board. It is not designed to work offline.

Intellectual property

The app, the API, the models we build on, our prompts, our safety gates, our interface and everything else we bring stay ours or our licensors’. These terms grant the customer a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service for its own operations during the term, and nothing more. The Orvedis name and logo may not be used without our written permission. Feedback you send us may be used to improve the Service, with no obligation and no payment.

Data protection

How personal data is handled is described in the privacy policy. For data the customer puts into the app, the customer is the controller and Orvedis is the processor, under the data processing agreement that forms part of the written agreement between us.

No warranty of accuracy

The Service is provided as it is. We do not warrant that the assistant’s output is accurate, complete or suitable for a particular situation. An AI system can be wrong, can misread a manual and can misunderstand a question. Output is to be checked against the equipment, its documentation and the judgement of the responsible officer before anything is done with it. To the extent the law permits, we exclude all implied warranties, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law permits: neither party is liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of revenue, loss of charter or hire, loss of data, or business interruption; our total liability arising out of or in connection with the Service in any twelve month period is limited to the fees the customer paid us for the Service in that period; and nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.

The customer remains responsible for the operation of the vessel and for every decision taken on board.

Term, suspension and termination

These terms apply for as long as the customer’s written agreement runs. Either party may end that agreement as the agreement provides. We may suspend access in the circumstances described under acceptable use.

When the agreement ends, access ends. The customer may export its data before that date, and may ask us for an export within 30 days after it. We then delete the customer’s data as set out in the data processing agreement and the privacy policy, except for copies in backups, which expire on their own schedule.

Changes

We may change these terms. Material changes are notified to the customer before they take effect, and the date on this page changes with them. Continued use of the Service after that date means the new version applies.

Governing law

These terms are governed by Turkish law. The courts and enforcement offices of Istanbul, Türkiye have jurisdiction. This is without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection right, or to any mandatory rule of the country where a user in the European Union lives or works, that cannot be set aside by agreement.

App Store downloads

Where the app is downloaded from the Apple App Store, Apple’s standard End User Licence Agreement, the Licensed Application End User License Agreement, applies in addition to these terms, and where the two conflict on a subject Apple’s agreement covers, Apple’s agreement prevails for that subject. The agreement is between the customer, the user and Orvedis, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the Service or for support, and support requests go to support@orvedis.com. Apple and its subsidiaries are third party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against the user.
